Dawn Isaacs

Inspiration for my work has developed from studies of 16th century Raku ware combined with influences from Islamic architecture which made a strong impression  during 11 years spent living in the middle-east. References are also drawn from the environment, nature and marine life.
The strong yet simple forms of the Japanese tradition
are translated into a range of semi-functional, decorative and individual pieces. Cracks in the clay are not only intentional but integral to the Japanese firing technique, and add a spirit and force to the work.
The style of work is constantly changing as working
with clay is a continual learning process through which I explore my creative potential.
