| The
landscape and coastline of West Penwith (Cornwall) is my main inspiration. Anything from
the huge rock formations of the cliffs, to one small crack in a rock influences the forms
I make. The sea has formed these rocks; its the coming together of the two forces,
land and sea that holds the most magnetism. I try to represent the motion of the sea through the surface marks I make. These marks are made with pieces of driftwood, which have been shaped by the sea and provide me with a link to the sea's energy. The anagama style kiln we have built is a force unto itself; it gets it energy directly from the sun and the earth in the form of wood and provides me with another link to the raw untamable forces of nature painting my pots with flame. |
