I was born to a ceramic artist in 1961 and had my eyes opened to the artistic influence of nature at an early age. My latest work is all about time in various aspects, from millions of years ago - to millennia past and on to the present day. Small 'fossils' show the pre-historic age when the 'stone' may have been formed. The 'stones' themselves resemble early mans' carved monoliths which were often complex solar and astral calendars.I have marked a simple 12 hour sundial on each piece to give the works a functional as well as aesthetic and conceptual purpose. The dial is somewhat worn and slightly unclear as if eroded away by centuries of time itself. |This brings to mind mans' mortality and the fleeting moment in time we call our whole lives. | ||||||||||||||

| These
two standing stone/sundials are approximately five to six feet high. The stone to the left is inspired by the strata in certain types of blue/grey slate. The other resembles a crystalline limestone, popular with early cultures for carving and creating their Barrows and Henges. |

Here
the 12-hour sundial can be seen marked out in a 'T' shape. A flower has
been inserted into the top point at approximately 51 degrees. This flower
acts as a 'gnomon' and the suns shadow on the marks, (each 15 degrees,) gives an accurate time reading (here it clearly shows 3.15pm) |
