Malcolm Gorman'S WORKS

ARTIST STATEMENT

I have always loved portraits and figurative art; despite attempts at abstraction, my thoughts have always returned to the inevitable features and as if by magic a face appears.
Figurative work tells the viewer so much about an individual: a smile, a glint in the eye, tears, the freshness of youth or frailty of age, wealth or poverty, status or just as “common as muck”.
What gets me excited and my brain working overtime is adding that extra ingredient - a pinch of humour to my art and of course, the constant desire to improve on my last piece of work.
My final installation pays homage to my peers and celebrates the great time we have spent together within the Ceramics Department at the University of Westminster.
